I usually seed my torrents for 5 days or 10-20x ratio, but no more.I've noticed a gradual decline in thanking someone for IV RIPS. It's a wonder some of us continue to post. I saw over 400 peers on this torrent with 3 thanks. The ratio seems to be getting worse. I wonder why Cedar87 continues to post some material here for us, some ratios I see are truly appalling. Are most of the peers non-members, or just discourteous members? I probably should stick to posting U-15 torrents/DD, which is consistent with comments, interests, and thanks.Quote:Originally Posted by illuminatus3Fyi, I've stopped seeding this torrent. I guess some think saying thank you all the time seems old, like if you keep saying it it may start to sound not sincere or something I don't know.I wouldn't retreat yet, give it a bit longer, maybe try to make an announcement in another part of the forum or something or ask the mods to spread it around or something. I'm sure there are people who are thankful, and Cedar I don't think should stop posting yet either, but after a while 100 people for every post saying thanks might seem a bit over saturated, that's my guess as to why people don't say it in comment or use that specific button, the one's I download I say thanks for, if not I'll remember to be more courteous but most I say thanks for.I do sometimes forget to give thanks for my downloads, so for that I apologize. I'll try and remember to thank the providers and you have definitely been one of the best.So thanks, and thanks again.Maybe I'm thinking about this in the wrong way, but personally, I don't look at this as a venue for social interaction, but rather as a place where I download things. As such, I don't state my gratitude by typing or clicking, but by seeding appropriately - giving back at least as much as I've taken. I'm breaking from my normal pattern here only because I think it would be a shame if you stopped contributing because of what you perceive as a lack of appreciation or manners. You can rest assured that there are people who are grateful for the effort you choose to put in, and also that there are ingrates who don't care. In the end, whether you continue or quit is up to you, but I would hope you'd make that decision based on what you want, and not what other people do or fail to do.The reason for my previous post was to get a clear understanding, and feedback on why the thanks (Thanks button) has declined. LordAmamn, I didn't think of the idea that some might feel hitting the thanks button over and over, saying thanks gets oldAgain, I use the U-15 torrents for comparison, the comments and thanks hasn't changed much in the past year. I don't see why anyone will stop thanking someone for a product, be it a DVDISO, .AVI/MP4 torrent RIP or DD. Are we going to stop thanking the gentleman server at a restaurant we frequent because we see him all the time, and thanking him for the same service over and over is getting old?yahiroy, I appreciate your comments, and I'm sure everyone appreciates those who keep a torrent alive. Their contribution is as important as the original torrent poster. But, a forum can be a place for social interaction, and a poster is more inspired to post more if the material he/she shares is appreciated. And, the 'thanks button' is one of the most common ways to show this appreciation. I believe that's why it's utilized in a lot of forums.Btw, I'm not going to stop posting torrents, nor am I suggesting Cedar87 or anyone else does either. I'm merely pointing out that the service I offer will be less. I might seed for 2 days only, and will not re-seed upon requestQuote:Originally Posted by illuminatus3The reason for my previous post was to get a clear understanding, and feedback on why the thanks (Thanks button) has declined. As for me personally no I don't think saying Thanks is ever lessened it's always respectful.Sometimes I probably forget to say thanks, it does happen, is that a reason to seed so little I don't know I'd say personally now that this is out wait a little while like 2 weeks or a month maybe tops see if it goes up and if in a month it doesn't then you can choose to post less and seedl less but you should give it a decent bit of time to see if posts of thanks or the button being hit increases.Quote:Originally Posted by LordAmamnWell that's fine I guess, but I know some people personally who think saying thanks over and over again is tiresome sort of like saying sorry if you feel sorry for something bad that happens to someone. Yes, you're correct it's really not that hard, but it can be easily over looked and sometimes people just think of this as a place to download it's not necessary to be a whole social networking community like a myspace or friendster or facebook network. I think forums definitely can be a place to gather and talk but not on the scale of those such sites or any like them.I was merely venturing that as a possibility cause in my personal life I know sometimes people don't say thanks and sometimes I go sheesh how hard is it for you to thank the person who took the time to share this and they go WTF and snap at me and go I just forgot guy, no one is perfect, that's why I say maybe don't assume they are being rude. Also, maybe unlike you, I do know some people who don't personally always say thank you cause they personally think if you say it too much it feels watered down like if you say sorry alot but still mess up it's like are you? To IlluminatusWhen you want people to be more courteous would you want people to say thanks for all posts or just ones you personally download cause not everything I viewed I download, and some I have thanked and not dled but I figure it should definitely be for one's you personally dl but not sure if you should thank the poster of every post if you don't dl them.Generally, I offer thanks for everything I download, but sometimes I offer thanks for great artwork, presentation etc even though I may already have the .AVI/MP4/ISO/picset. No one expects a 50-100% ratio of thanks to DL peers, but I would think a 10-20% is a good indication that courtesy is not completely dead.Let's not beat this subject to death please, this is my last post on the matter.Cheers.
