Basic tips and quick quide that will help you build your first page.

Introduction

Get started with Reveal Template which is extended version of Bootstrap, the world’s most popular framework for building responsive, mobile-first sites, with predefined styles and a template starter page. While this is extended Bootstrap 4 template we avoid to overwrite default utilities or components. If you are already familiar with Bootstrap syntax, you're ready to go. All upgrades with advanced and premium features are explained in following documentation so please use the side menu to navigate the documentation.

Quick install

For quick start copy HTML folder with all subfolders and files for your desired project, so you can use plain HTML, CSS and JS to work around.

Stylesheets

Looking to quickly add Reveal template to your project you need to include all needed CSS files. Make sure that the main stylesheet style.css is the last one, it will apply all predefined components and color sets. Media queries for responsive preview are included!

Javascript

Also for javascript plugins you should include mandatory libraries. Many of our components require the use of JavaScript to function. Specifically, they require jQuery, and JavaScript plugins. Our bootstrap.bundle.js and bootstrap.bundle.min.js includes Popper.js. For more info about popper.js read more on this link.

Starter template

For building your own template we prepare the starter template code. Be sure to have your pages set up with the latest design and development standards. That means using an HTML5 doctype and including a viewport meta tag for proper responsive behaviors. Put it all together and your pages should look like this:

Working with Gulp

Developer environment setup

Reveal is builted with advanced development toolset such as Gulp, Node.js, SCSS, Handlebars.js and Panini.js which provide automate painful or time-consuming tasks in your development workflow.

File structure

For development mode HTML folder is not for editing. It will be distribution folder when you compile and build project from SOURCE code. So every time when you build the project, HTML folder will be deleted, just to be sure there is no conflicts before rendering.

Node.js

In order to use our build tools you will need to download and install Node.js.

Gulp CLI

After Node is installed you can proceed with Gulp installation. To do that simply run the command below in your terminal. This will install Gulp globally.

Copynpm install gulp-cli -g

Reveal package dependencies

Open Terminal and run "npm install" to install all of Reveal dependencies. New folder node_modules will be created automaticaly.

Build tools

Now you're ready to start building new pages. It will trigger all predefined tasks. All content for development is located in SOURCE folder. You can adjust templates or styles, and than just run the command to build new HTML project.

For compiling SCSS styles, or render HTML pages separately use following command:

Production ready

Reveal is production ready, which means you can trigger task and bundle all resources, to speed up your website. But first open source/app/data/global.json file and set "production": true, than trigger the task and compile and render project ready for production.

Theming

Theming & dark mode

Introduction

Theming is available only if you use build tools. It's accomplished by SCSS variables, SCSS maps, and custom CSS. There’s no more dedicated stylesheet; instead, you can enable the built-in options to add gradients, shadows, and more.

Important: For using SCSS files without building tools, you need to download Bootstrap manually and map paths in _optional.scss and _required.scss files. Please don't hesitate to ask us anything, we have great support team. For more info please visit out helpdesk.

If you’ve downloaded our source files you’ll want to manually setup something similar to that structure, keeping Reveal’s source files separate from your own.

Dark mode

Applying dark mode is available through data attribute data-theme="dark". To apply appereance on page set data attribude on <body> tag.

Theme colors are predefined and it can be combined with any element.

Background colors

Similar to the contextual text color classes, easily set the background of an element to any contextual class. Anchor components will darken on hover, just like the text classes. Background utilities do not set color, so in some cases you’ll want to use .text-* utilities.
